Simulation and Measurement-Based Vehicle-to-Vehicle Channel Characterization: Accuracy and Constraint Analysis

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, a deterministic channel model for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication, is compared against channel measurement data collected during a V2V channel measurement campaign using a channel sounder. Channel metrics such as channel gain, delay and Doppler spreads, eigenvalue decomposition and antenna correlations are derived from the ray tracing (RT) simulations as well as from the measurement data obtained from two different measurements in an urban fourway intersection scenario. The chann… Show more

“…Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication has recently received phenomenal attention over the past few years in both automakers and academia domains as it plays a vital role in intelligent highways, collision avoidance, vehicles safety, and better traffic efficiency [1,2]. As a new emerging communication system, V2V communication is regarded as one basic type of communications in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET), also particularly useful in autonomous driving system.…”

“…As it differs from other traditional RT, the enhanced RT used in this study has been calibrated in various frequencies and scenarios [16][17][18][19]. We make a special measurement for extracting electromagnetic (EM) and scattering parameters of the most influential materials in the HSR tunnel.…”

“…Furthermore, for specific environments where materials are unavailable or insufficient in standards, measurements will be used to calibrate the coefficients. In this work, we apply the proposed approach in [44,45], and the calibrated material parameters of cutting, viaduct, and others are implanted into the RT simulator after measurements. Thus, the RT simulator can be used for simulation to perform an in-depth analysis of the channel characteristics in specific scenario.…”
