M-PSK (phase shift keying) modulation schemes are used in many high-speed applications like satellite communication, as they are more bandwidth and power efficient compared with other schemes. This study presents very large scale integrated circuits (VLSI) architectures for modulators and demodulators of quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8PSK and 16PSK systems, based on the principle of direct digital synthesis. The proposed modulators do not use any multiplier in contrast to the conventional modulators and hence they are relatively fast and area efficient. Based on the coherent detection technique, this study proposes new demodulation algorithms for 8PSK and 16PSK systems which can be implemented both in analogue and digital domains. This study also presents VLSI architectures for all the proposed algorithms. The proposed architectures are described in Verilog and implemented on Xilinx field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The simulation results verify their functional validity and implementation results show the suitability of the proposed architectures for satellite communications.

<span>The design of electronic systems has become mainly dependent on FPGAs applications. This is due to the softness effectiveness progress by reconfigurable computing and reduced time to develop solutions for digital signal processing. In this article, we present the theoretical backgrounds of a BPSK modulation and hardware designs of the BPSK system, a firstly with the help of Matlab/Simulink reliant on the System Generator and a second with Xilinx ISE VERILOG Hardware Description Language. In order to show the differences between them, in terms of efficiency, duration of development and how many resources are used in FPGA. For the projected system, we have a tendency to aimed toward employing a moderately sized, low-value FPGA to implement the system. The Atlys development board by Digilent to configure develops, and run the system, based on a Xilinx Spartan-6 LX45 FPGA.</span>

This paper proposes a new split digital phase lock loop (DPLL) in the presence of additive wideband Gaussian noise. The proposed new loop incorporates an additional phase modulation input along with its frequency modulation input in the digitally controlled oscillator of the loop. The present loop eliminates the deleterious effects of wideband Gaussian noise. A better output signal-to-noise ratio is achieved using the new split-loop DPLL. In the design of the loop, the interaction between the loop and the radio frequency filters is avoided by using an in-phase and quadrature-phase digitally control oscillator. The proposed split-loop DPLL is simulated using MATLAB (The MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA)/Simulink environment and System Generator, a tool from Xilinx (Xilinx, Inc., San Jose, CA, USA) used for field programmable gate array design, as well as implemented on a Spartan 3E Starter Kit board. The design is implemented on field programmable gate array using the VHDL [Very High Speed Integrated Circuit (VHSIC) Hardware Description Language] language on Xilinx ISE 13.1. The proposed split-loop DPLL proves to be better than the conventional split-loop DPLL from the standpoint of the settling time, the peak time, the rise time, and the peak overshoot as well as from the standpoint of the BER performance for a typical binary phase-shift keying system and validates against the MATLAB/Simulink results.
