Simulated Analysis of Location and Distance Based Routing in VANET with IEEE802.11p

Abstract: A new sub-category of MANET is vehicular ad hoc network where vehicles communicate with each other. Because of constraint roads and very high speed of vehicles, routing is an issue in VANET. Most of the papers analyzed the performance of topology based routing protocols. This paper analyzed the performance of distance-effect routing algorithm for mobility (DREAM) and location aided routing (LAR) location-based protocols for city and highway vehicular environment. Metrics for analysis of performance like PDR, r… Show more

“…The locations of vehicles are obtained using GPS [7]. Other location-based routing protocols that exploit the geographical information of vehicles include GPSR [8], Geographic Source Routing (GSR) [9], Distance Effect Routing Algorithm for Mobility (DREAM) [10], MM-GPSR [5], Location-Aided Routing (LAR) [11], MGPSR [6] and Greedy Perimeter Coordinator Routing (GPCR) [12]. Here, we implement the latest versions of MM-GPSR and MGPSR protocol in a vehicular environment.…”

“…Thereafter, they critically compare various issues of geographic routing in order to improve the reliability in VANET. In [10], the two position-based protocols DREAM and LAR are analyzed in city and highway environment using IEEE 802.11p standard. Performance metrics like packet delivery ratio, throughput, overhead and packet loss are evaluated using NS2 simulator.…”

“…A simulation analysis of geographic location and distance routing on the vehicle area network (VANET) was carried out [32][33][34] using the wireless technology approach (IEEE 802.11p). The work addressed the issue of routing in VANET due to road constraints like over-speeding of vehicles and road barriers.…”

“…For a high traffic collision environment, taking a routing decision based on the distance and vehicle stability is insufficient. The reactive routing protocols have a better mean opinion score in a VANET environment [27] whereas the location-based VANET routing protocols have a good result due to location accuracy [12,24]. However, they face a degradation in average mean opinion score [32] and affect the quality of video streaming over VANETs.…”
