Simplified modeling of a PV panel by using PSIM and its comparison with laboratory test results

Abstract: This paper presents an easy and accurate procedure of the modeling of a commercially available Photovoltaic Panel by using Solar Module (Physical Model) Simulator embedded in a very powerful Simulation software known as PSIM. Methods of Photovoltaic Panel modeling including mathematical modeling and software based modeling are also discussed in this paper. Apart from modeling types, I-V (Current-Voltage) and P-V (Power-Voltage) Characteristics and some other useful results obtained from PSIM Simulation are fur… Show more

“…In PV systems, inverters are used to convert DC electricity generated from a solar panel or battery to AC electricity, so as to either supply consumer households or to connect directly to the utility grid. This conversion can either be achieved by transistors or by SCRs (silicon controlled rectifiers) [9]. However, MOSFETs (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) and IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) are good candidates for the switches in DC to AC conventional techniques [10].…”

“…Over the last decade, photovoltaic energy has become more and more widespread. As a result, conversion systems such as choppers and inverters have become necessary to adapt to different technologies and environments [1], [2]. However, these semiconductor-based power converters, ubiquitous in various fields, operate polluting due to the fast switching.…”
