Simple Empirical Formulae for Cutoff Frequencies of Few Moded Graded Index Fibers and Index Profile Determination

Abstract

Simple empirical formulae allowing computation of normalised cutoff frequencies of LP 11; LP 02 and LP 2 i modes of single clad graded-index fibers with power law and trapezoidal index profiles have been proposed. As an application of these formulae a new method is presented to predict the refractive index profile of such fibers which are single-moded in the 1.5 urn wavelengthregion.
