Show more

“…Nascimento et al (1986), also concluded that damages caused by Tylocephalum in the oyster C. rhizophorae from Bahia State had only mechanical effects, caused by the entrance of this cestode into oyster tissues. According to the present study, larvae capsulation of Tylocephalum by fiber cells of the oysters (revealing a response of the host) is recorded in a number of papers (Cheng, 1975;Lauckner, 1983;Hine and Thorne, 2000;Boehs and Magalhães, 2004).…”

“…Nematopsis occurrence was recorded in C. rhizophorae (Nascimento et al, 1986), and in mussels Mytella guyanensis (Azevedo and Matos, 1999) and Perna perna (Lima et al, 2001). Metazoans of genus Tylocephalum were observed in C. rhizophorae (Nascimento et al, 1986) and in A. brasiliana (Boehs and Magalhães, 2004).…”

“…In all of these studies, a defense reaction was observed in the host, with formation of a fibrous capsule around the metacestode, without any damage to the host, because of the reabsorption process (ZEIDAN et al, 2012). The same responses were observed in other mollusks such as Tapes semidecussata (CHENG & RIFKIN, 1968), C. virginica (WINSTEAD et al, 2004), C. rhizophorae (SABRY & MAGALHÃES, 2005) and A. brasiliana and I. brasiliana (BOEHS & MAGALHÃES, 2004;BOEHS et al, 2010).…”

“…has been reported to use different species of bivalves as an intermediate host (NASCIMENTO et al, 1986;MAGALHÃES, 2004;MAGALHÃES, 2005;SABRY et al, 2007;BOEHS et al, 2010;DA SILVA et al, 2011;. According to Lauckner (1983), this cestode completes its life cycle in elasmobranchs, and is more common in tropical and subtropical regions.…”
