This research examined if the infusion of silver nanoparticles into a 2-octyl cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive alters the antibacterial effectiveness and mechanical properties of the adhesive. Silver nanoparticle size and concentration combinations were varied to determine the effects of these factors. Uniform distribution of the silver nanoparticles was achieved before proceeding to testing. Antibacterial effectiveness of the composite adhesive was determined via the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion susceptibility test and by CFU counting. Doping the adhesive with silver nanoparticles resulted in an order of magnitude reduction in bacterial growth. The greatest antibacterial effect came from imbuing 10 μg/mL of 4 nm silver nanoparticles into the tissue adhesive. Despite the noticeable reduction of bacterial growth for the doped adhesives, the difference among the varying silver nanoparticle size and concentration combinations was minimal.The breaking strength of the adhesive increased when silver nanoparticles were added. The adhesive strength of the composite adhesive attached to an incised porcine sclera was also greater than the unaltered adhesive. Scaffolds with multiple advantageous biological and structural properties are still a challenge in the field of tissue engineering. The convergence of advanced fabrication techniques and functional materials is key to fulfill this need. Melt electrowriting (MEW) is an additive manufacturing technique that enables the fabrication of microfibrous scaffolds with precisely defined microarchitectures. Here, it is proposed to exploit metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) to efficiently introduce multifunctionalities by combining polycaprolactone (PCL), the gold standard material in MEW, with a silver‐/silver‐chloride‐decorated iron‐based MOF (NH2‐MIL‐88B(Fe)). This results in highly ordered constructs with antibacterial properties and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) visibility. Scaffolds with up to 20 wt% MOF are successfully melt‐electrowritten with a fiber diameter of 50 µm. Among these, 5 wt% MOF proves to be the optimal concentration as it exhibits silver‐induced sustained antibacterial efficacy while maintaining PCL cytocompatibility and in vitro immune response. The iron component of the MOF (Fe(III) nodes) renders the composite visible with MRI, thereby enabling scaffold monitoring upon implantation with a clinically accepted method. The combination of MEW and MOFs as tunable additives and cargo carriers opens the way for designing advanced multifunctional scaffolds with a wide range of applications in, e.g., tissue engineering, biosensing and drug delivery.

Wound healing is a complex and sequential biological process that involves multiple stages. Although various nanomaterials are applied to accelerate the wound healing process, only a single stage is promoted during the process, lacking hierarchical stimulation. Herein, hollow CeO2 nanoparticles (NPs) with rough surface and l‐arginine inside (AhCeO2 NPs) are developed as a compact and programmable nanosystem for sequentially promoting the hemostasis, inflammation, and proliferation stages. The rough surface of AhCeO2 NPs works as a nanobridge to rapidly closure the wounds, promoting the hemostasis stage. The hollow structure of AhCeO2 NPs enables the multireflection of light inside particles, significantly enhancing the light harvest efficiency and electron–hole pair abundance. Simultaneously, the porous shell of AhCeO2 NPs facilitates the electron–hole separation and reactive oxygen species production, preventing wound infection and promotion wound healing during the inflammation stage. The enzyme mimicking property of AhCeO2 NPs can alleviate the oxidative injury in the wound, and the released l‐arginine can be converted into nitric oxide (NO) under the catalysis of inducible NO synthase, both of which promote the proliferation stage. A series of in vitro and in vitro biological assessments corroborate the effectiveness of AhCeO2 NPs in the wound healing process.
