Silver Complexes of N-Heterocyclic Carbenes as Anticancer Agents: A Review

Abstract: This review covers the explanation of all the biological efficiencies of the N-Heterocyclic Carbenes (NHCs). Most of the reviews of NHCs focused on its chemical and physical applications, we have noted the properties, types and applications of metal complexes of NHCS. Our principle aim is to throw a light on the biological applications of the complexes. N heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) have been discovered in the 90's and have been marking an important place in organic chemistry. NHCs contain divalent carbon atom… Show more

“…Thus, much research activity is focused on the discovery of new organometallic complexes that are less toxic than platinum compounds and have less cross-resistance. Silver and gold complexes are among those that have recently been arousing considerable interest because of these characteristics [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ].…”

“…Moreover, the potential of transition metal complexes related to various biological activities has been reviewed in many papers up to now. The following papers belong among the most current ones: e.g., a review regarding cobalt Schiff base complexes as anticancer agents [13], N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of silver as anticancer agents [14], cytotoxic activities of Pt, Pd, Ru, and Au complexes [15], and metal complexes of 8-hydroxyquinoline with antileukemia activities [16].…”
