“…Mushrooming industrialization and urbanization are primarily responsible for deteriorating the surface and sub-surface water quality, causing hazardous effects on both aquatic organisms and human health. Among water contaminants, dyes and pigments, which are widely discharged from textile, pharmaceutical, paint, rubber, cosmetic, and confectionary industries effluents [ 1 , 2 ], produce unwanted color to water bodies, resulting in intoxication of ecosystems. Rhodamine B (RB) is a synthetic cationic dye, containing a multi-ring aromatic xanthene core planar structure [ 3 ].…”

“…Adsorption processes are considered the most useful method because the advantages clearly outweigh the potential disadvantages [ 5 ]. In order to perform this process, many different adsorbents are being used, such as: activated carbon [ 6 ], chitosan [ 7 ], magnetic chitosan resins [ 8 ], magnetic thiourea-formaldehyde resins [ 9 ], silica [ 10 ], graphene [ 11 ], zeolite [ 12 ], Dowex resin [ 13 ], alginate beads [ 14 ], montmorillonite clay [ 15 ] and cyclodextrins [ 16 , 17 ].…”

“…The energy for chemisorption lies in the range between 40 and 800 kJ/mol [48]. As can be seen in Figure 1a and Table 2, the Langmuir model gave the best fit to the experimental data of boron adsorption on hybrid chitosan-zirconium hydrogel beads; the highest correlation coefficient, R 2 = 0.992, and the smallest mean error, ME = 2.85%, were obtained at 25 • C. The very good applicability of the Langmuir isotherm at 25 • C suggested the monolayer coverage of boron molecules on the surface of hybrid chitosan-zirconium hydrogel where the active sites and energies were homogenously distributed [49,50]. The maximum adsorptive capacity was equal to 2 mg/g, which was in good agreement with the experimental value.…”
