Silica Supported Perchloric Acid: A Convenient and Environmentally Friendly Catalyst for the One‐pot Multicomponent Synthesis of β‐Acetamido Ketones

Abstract: A modified Dakin-West one-pot, four-component condensation of an aryl aldehyde, aryl ketone, acetyl chloride and acetonitrile in the presence of silica supported perchloric acid as an active, inexpensive, recoverable and recyclable catalyst is reported for the synthesis of β-acetamido ketones under mechanical stirring and ultrasonic irradiation conditions. This system has advantages of short reaction times, good to excellent yields and the ability to carry out the large scale reactions. The use of ultrasound i… Show more

“…Reagent grade chemicals and solvents were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich or Merck and were used without further purification. NMR spectra were obtained on a Bruker Avance-400 MHz spectrometer ( 1 H NMR at 400 Hz, 13 C NMR at 100 Hz) in DMSO-d 6 or CDCl 3 using TMS as an internal standard. Chemical shifts (δ) are given in ppm and coupling constants (J) are given in Hz.…”

“…[1][2][3] Therefore, searching for efficient and concise techniques for their synthesis through multicomponent reactions (MCRs) is worthwhile. A number of methods have been developed for the synthesis of β-acetamidocarbonyl compounds by the use of diverse catalysts such as cerium (IV) sulfate, 4 CuSO 4 .5H 2 O, 5 phosphomolybdic acid supported on silica (PMA/SiO 2 ), 6 zinc oxide, 7 [Et 3 N-SO 3 H]Cl, 8 13 and trimethylsilyl chloride. 14 However, some of the reported methods suffer disadvantages such as long reaction times and harsh reaction conditions.…”

“…Bhatia et al proposed another procedure for the formation of these compounds through the condensation of an aryl aldehyde, acetophenone, and acetyl chloride in acetonitrile in the presence of CoCl 2 [ 7 ] or montmorillonite K-10 clay [ 8 ]. Other catalysts such as heteropolyacids [ 9 ], HClO 4 -SiO 2 [ 10 ], CeCl 3 [ 11 ], ZnO [ 12 ], cyanuric chloride [ 13 ], Amberlyst-15 [ 14 ], and POCl 3 /Borax [ 15 ] have been used. Although these methods are valuable, most of them employ expensive catalysts, long reaction times, or harsh reaction conditions.…”
