Significant effect of NSP‐ase enzyme supplementation in sunflower meal‐based diet on the growth and nutrient digestibility in broilers

Abstract: The response of broiler chickens to 3 levels of sunflower meal and 2 levels of NSP-ase enzyme combination (with and without) was investigated in 3 × 2 factorial arrangement under complete randomized design (CRD). A total of 240 Hubbard broiler chicks were fed on practical mash diets having 2950 kcal of ME and 21% CP from 1 to 42 days of age. The BW gain was not significantly reduced when 25% SFM was added in the diets during 1 to 42 days of age. Supplementation of NSP-ase in broiler diets (day 1-42 overall) de… Show more

“…Replacing soybean meal with sunflower meal at high rates is possible in different poultry species [62,63,64,65]. The beneficial effect of enzyme supplementation appears to vary [66,67,68]. Sunflower meal can also be used in pig feed, although some studies suggest that amino acid digestibility was lower than in soybean meal [69,70,71,72].…”

“…The results of previous studies stated that SFM could be included up to 15% [8,19] and 20% levels [10,11] in the diet with no negative effects on performance parameters such as BWG or FCR in broilers. In addition, Christaki et al [29] noted that the BW, FI, and FCR of quails were not significantly affected by dietary SFM ranging from 3.5% to 6.5% levels.…”

“…While some researches indicated that SFM can be used up to 15% in broiler diets without negatively affecting performance [7,8], some studies reported that it can be used at higher levels [9,10], especially with the addition of enzymes [11]. On the contrary, there were studies reported that the use of 10% and more SFM in broiler diets negatively affected the growth performance [12][13][14][15].…”

“…Sunflower meal (SFM) is a by-product of sunflower oil industry, and has been increasingly added to animal diets (Ali et al, 2011;Bilal et al, 2016). Moreover, SFM is potentially one of the most important protein sources in the world, and particularly in our country.…”
