“…6,7 Interestingly, LC-OCT was able to detect in all lesions, at Day 8, the presence of the apoptotic keratinocytes, appearing as targeted/ring-like cells, even in case of minimal clinical inflammation. The aspect of these cells is similar to that of apoptotic cells described by reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) in interface dermatitis 9 and in lentigo maligna during radiotherapy. 10 Inflammatory cells and vesiculation were seen in 62% and 24% of cases, respectively.…”

“…More recently, using RCM, the presence of 'signet-like ring cells' corresponding to basal cell vacuolization in histology has been reported in the literature as being detectable in interface dermatitis. 22 Logistic regression analysis of the confocal criteria significant in the multivariate analysis revealed a global median probability of clinical diagnostic confirmation of 76Á8% (77Á7% for interface dermatitis, 74Á8% for spongiotic dermatitis and 77Á9% for psoriasiform dermatitis).…”

“…The horizontal approach to the skin tissue of RCM represents a key interpretative element that has to be constantly considered when interpreting the data. More recently, using RCM, the presence of ‘signet‐like ring cells’ corresponding to basal cell vacuolization in histology has been reported in the literature as being detectable in interface dermatitis …”

“…The hallmark of this finding is the inflammatory involvement of the dermoepidermal junction (DEJ). In RCM, the presence of “signet ring‐like cells” is a clue to the diagnosis of interface dermatitis, corresponding to a complete annular bright ring with a polar reinforcement, surrounding a dark center, described by Amini‐Adle et al 20 In our study, we included PAS to improve the observation of epithelial basement membrane thickening, one of the main features of interface dermatitis in HP.…”
