Signal Timing Optimization Based on Fuzzy Compromise Programming for Isolated Signalized Intersection

Abstract: In order to optimize the signal timing for isolated intersection, a new method based on fuzzy programming approach is proposed in this paper. Considering the whole operation efficiency of the intersection comprehensively, traffic capacity, vehicle cycle delay, cycle stops, and exhaust emission are chosen as optimization goals to establish a multiobjective function first. Then fuzzy compromise programming approach is employed to give different weight coefficients to various optimization objectives for different… Show more

“…Due to conflict among different objectives of TST optimization, some of the research in the literature considered multi-objective models to optimize the TST problem. References [76][77][78] refer to the problem of TST optimization with multi-objective models. Optimization of traffic capacity was the common objective among the above-mentioned studies.…”

“…7,8 To address this issue, researchers have proposed many signal timing approaches with multi-objective. 9 For isolate intersection under oversaturated conditions, Li et al 10 formulated an optimization model, in which maximum capacity and minimum queue length were taken as the optimization objectives. Jiao et al 11 established a mathematical model to find the optimal signal timing schemes of intersection, and the model can apply to real-time traffic signal control system.…”
