“…It has been shown by others authors that compounds crystallizing in equivalent ST absorb hydrogen and that hydrogen is then located in such tetrahedral sites (e.g. TbNiSiD 1.78 [13], RE 3 Ni 3 In 3 D 4 [14], LaNiSnD 2 [15],.). The ST AlB 2 is not observed for the intermetallics studied here but is observed for some of the corresponding hydrides.…”

“…It is important to understand the bonding character of materials in detail in order to explain why some materials have peculiar properties compared to other materials in say, a certain series. For example, the RNiInH 1.333 (R = La, Ce, Pr, Nd) series of compounds violates the so-called "2Å rule" for metal hydrides with the H-H separations of ∼1.6Å [26]. The reason appears to be that the presence of strong interaction between the transition metal (Ni) and hydrogen prohibits the electrons at the hydrogen atoms from participation in repulsive interaction between two closely arranged H atoms.…”

“…Die gleichen Pha È nomene, wenn auch nicht so ausgepra È gt, ergaben die Untersuchungen der Osmiumverbindung [3]. Allgemein wurden in Metallhydriden D±D-Absta È nde, die deutlich ku È rzer als 2 A Ê sind, bisher nur selten beobachtet [7,8] …”
