Short Communication Development and characterization of nine polymorphic microsatellites for the small brown planthopper Laodelphax striatellus (Hemiptera: Delphacidae)

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Nine microsatellite loci were isolated from the genome of Laodelphax striatellus (Homoptera: Delphacidae) by constructing (TC) 6 (AC) 5 and (AG) 6 (AC) 5 compound SSR-enriched libraries using suppression-PCR procedures. These loci were found to be highly polymorphic, with 13 to 30 alleles per locus in the three populations that we investigated (Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang). The observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.255 to 0.833 and 0.392 to 0.929, respectively. These microsatellite … Show more

“…Significant deviations from HWE associated with excess heterozygotes were detected in eight loci, including Bta1, Bta8, Bta13, Bta14, Bta16, Bta19, Bta20 and Bta21. The probable presence of null alleles for the eight loci may contribute to the deviation of the HWE (Sun et al 2012). No gametic disequilibrium was detected among all loci.…”

“…There was no significant correlation between geographical distance and genetic distance among any of the 20 populations ( Figure 4). Our estimates (Table S5) (Table S5) had a homogenizing effect on the genetic variation over geographic populations, counteracting random drift, selection, and mutation (Sun, Li, Yang, & Hong, 2012).…”

“…This might be owing to its migratory behavior and nongeographical isolation. Therefore, a high gene flow of armyworms (Table ) had a homogenizing effect on the genetic variation over geographic populations, counteracting random drift, selection, and mutation (Sun, Li, Yang, & Hong, ). Notably, the analyses of 20 geographically separated M. separata populations showed little to moderate genetic differentiation and a high gene flow (Tables and ).…”

“…Sun et al . () developed nine polymorphic microsatellites for L. striatellus using the enriched method. However, for fully understanding the population genetics of the studied species, large numbers of microsatellite loci are needed.…”
