Abstract:Short bowel syndrome refers to the clinical effects of extensive small bowel resection. It includes diarrhea, fluid and electrolyte disturbances and malabsorption associated with malnutrition. In order to understand the effects of the short bowel syndrome it is important to review some essential aspects of gastrointestinal physiology.
