“…It could be hence clearly observed that 4 of the 9 samples positive for P. flaciparum displayed enhanced intensity (i.e. higher than the reference ranges) of NE fluorescence (NE‐SFL), MO fluorescence (MO‐Y), and LY fluorescence (LY‐Y), while the remaining 5 cases also displayed NE‐SFL, MO‐Y, and LY‐Y data over the median value expected in healthy subjects (Table ) . Nine blood samples, regardless of the Plasmodium species, maturation stage, and parasitic index, displayed increased values of both LY‐Y, LY width of dispersion (LY‐WY) and 8 LY complexity width of dispersion (LY‐WX).…”

“…The new hematological analyzer Sysmex XN‐module (Sysmex Co., Kobe, Japan) enumerates and classifies blood cells, RET, immature leukocytes (White Precursors Cell; WPC), and platelets (PLT) with a combination of optical fluorescence technique (PLT‐F), flow cytometry, and laser‐optical recognition. The XN‐module also provides a variety of innovative cell population data (CPD) parameters, which can be helpful for improving leukocyte differential count and for the more accurate identification of abnormal cells . We hence describe here our recent experience of rapid screening of subjects with Malaria using the Sysmex XN‐module.…”

“…The results of monocyte counts, both in absolute and percent value, The comparison of XN-module with FlowDiff1 and FlowDiff2, OM with DI60, and FlowDiff1 with FlowDiff2, yielded values of relative bias that were lower than the analytical targets for desirable performance (CV APS ) of monocyte count, which is currently set at 6.5% for XN-module systems 25 . The monocyte count expressed in percent values displayed a relative bias ranging from −6.3% (DI60 vs OM) to 32.9% (XN-module vs DI60).…”

“…Re markable variability was noticed in the within-run imprecision of MO-parameters across the five XN-modules, being 0.8-14.1%. Acceptable performance compared with the desirable analytical specification for imprecision derived from biological variation data published by Buoro et al (14) was only met for NE-SFL and LY-Y across the five XN-modules. Although all CPD parameters reflecting cellular dispersion did not even fulfill the minimum target of analytical imprecision, the other parameters achieved this target in most XN-modules.…”
