Short- and Long-Term Relationship Orientation and 2D:4D Finger-Length Ratio

Abstract: Recent studies have shown that preferences for close relationships (Long-Term Relationship Orientation) are independent of preferences for various sexual partners (Short-Term Relationship Orientation). In the current studies, we hypothesized that Short-Term Relationship Orientation would be negatively related to 2D:4D finger-length ratio (i.e., the more masculine, the higher Short-Term Relationship Orientation). Study 1 found a negative relationship between Short-Term Relationship Orientation and right, but no… Show more

“…At the same time social desirability is negatively related to anxiety and depression and positively with global life satisfaction. However, we did not find a significant association between social desirability and 2D:4D, which coincide with previous reports that studied this association [36,37,63,64]. Social desirability is an additional predictor of the components of subjective well-being, along with personality traits [8].…”

“…In fact, it is plausible that most men, like most women, achieved the greatest reproductive success from pursuing long-term rather than short-term mating strategies. Consistent with this strategic pluralism analysis that casual sex was historically available only to a select subset of men, men who possess characteristics indicative of biological features such as healthy immune functioning (e.g., possessing a symmetrical face and body; Gangestad & Thornhill, 1997;Thornhill & Gangestad, 1994) and exposure to high levels of prenatal testosterone relative to estrogen (e.g., possessing a long ring finger relative to the index finger; Schwarz, Mustafíc, Hassebrauck, & Jörg, 2011) tend to be especially likely to pursue short-term mating opportunities (see Gangestad & Simpson, 2000).…”

“…Uma característica tipicamente dimórfica e potencial indicador da organização dos andrógenos pré-natais e, consequentemente, de sua influência no desenvolvimento do cérebro humano, é a taxa digital 2D:4D (Schwarz et al, 2011), que alguns estudos da sociossexualidade utilizam (Charles & Alexander, 2011;Clark, 2004;Hönekopp, Voracek, & Manning, 2006a;Mellen, 1981 (Mellen, 1981).…”
