Emotional stability is related to 2D:4D and social desirability in women: Possible implications on subjective well-being and psychopathology

Abstract: Emotional stability-Neuroticism is a complex construct influenced by genetics and environmental factors. Women tend to exhibit higher neuroticism scores than men, which may be associated with an increased risk of suffering from some common mental conditions. Some authors have pointed out the influence of sex hormones, since they induce sexual differentiation of the brain that can lead to sex-specific behaviors. 2D:4D digit ratio is commonly used as a marker of prenatal sex hormones. In this study we analyzed w… Show more

“…Meanwhile, the rationale for using PLS path modelling was to predict accuracy and explain the variance of the endogenous construct. It was therefore, regarded PLS path modelling to be the most suitable analytical approach using SmartPLS software version 3.3.2 developed by (Ringle et al, 2014) for this study.…”

“…Neuroticism as the last on the list portrayed the emotional stability of an individual. It identified the level of mood stability and the ability to control one's emotional reaction like anger and irritations (Anita et al, 2020;Rodríguez-Ramos et al, 2021). The five-factor model of the personality traits can also be described on a continuum scale from the extreme positive "pole" to the extreme negative "pole" or on a Cartesian plane as depicted on the number line (See Figure 1).…”

“…Several findings have indicated a sex-specific association between the 2D/4D ratio and brain structure or function ( 179–181 ). Additionally, the associations between the 2D/4D ratio and personality traits, such as schizotypal personality ( 182 ), neuroticism ( 183 ), and emotional stability ( 184 ), are shown. The tree-drawing test (Baum test) ( 185 ) is a projective personality assessment technique.…”

“…Subsequently, the anxiety level is positively associated with the length of CAG repeats in AR in men ( 101 ). Indeed, there are some contradictory results ( 102 ); however, at least a portion of the variation in psychopathology is believed to be due to the organizational effects of sex hormones. Thus, the 2D:4D might help to assess the relationship between prenatal androgen factors and a variety of behaviors, including anxiety.…”
