A study of karst land use and land cover dynamics is critical for managing karst areas, which provide many pivotal services for people. This study aims to study such dynamics, especially in relation to the karst of Gunung Sewu, due to its development as a new emerging sector. Using a mixed methods approach, the study combines spatial data analysis with qualitative analysis. Spatial analysis was performed to examine the dynamic of the land cover derived from 2013 and 2021 Landsat 8 imagery, analyzed with the Google Earth Engine tool, together with analysis of spatial patterns using Global Moran’s I and LISA. The spatial analysis results were complemented by a qualitative analysis of the environmental history and development trends, as an explanatory method. The land cover analysis reveals a conversion from vegetation to agriculture, while the spatial pattern analysis shows that such conversion has mostly taken place in the northern part of the study area of Wonosari Basin. The environmental history of teak forest exploitation and agriculture is key to understanding current land use related to the emerging tourism sector, which is fundamental to the region. To manage the negative impacts, sustainable land use with a firm policy framework urgently needs to be implemented.

Traditional beliefs based on religion have served as a direction for people's lives in interpreting life. Life guidelines received from good education might represent wise methods of dealing with nature. This study aimed: (1) to examine the tradition of using cave water in the Mandati and Wanci tribes, (2) to examine the traditional value and meaning to develop sustainable ecotourism. The research used a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnographic approach to explain facts, meanings, and traditional values of using cave water. Data were obtained through participant observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature study. Data were analyzed using triangulation. Informants were selected from various groups: traditional leaders, government, community leaders. The reseach revealed that there are four traditions that use water go for traditional purposes, namely: (1) Ufe Karia Mbo'u Mbo'u, (2) Ufe Karia Ntooge/Hoporuku, (3) Ufe Heraha Kuni, and (4) Ufe Kafi (Wedding traditional water). The tribes believed that cave water was highly beneficial for healing, bringing blessings and health, fortune, and for the soul. The cave water is specifically used for Ufe Karia, which symbolizes native behavior in keeping the cave's culture, rituals, and water resources. The community used this tradition to purify, protect and baptize Wakatobi children in preparation for adulthood. Moreover, the wisdom in this tradition aimed to support ecotourism in Wakatobi Regency.

Since the nineties, cultural tourism is considered as a form of tourism that is carried out by groups of people or institutions, whose main motive is the fulfillment of an interest and knowledge more on the culture, the history and the heritage of the chosen destination. The city of Constantine, located in northeastern Algeria, is one of the oldest cities in the Mediterranean basin. It was elected "Capital of Arab Culture 2015" due to its history, cultural and architectural heritage. The aim of this study is to examine the influences of cultural tourism on local development, to highlight the perception of local actors' roles in the development of tourism and to determine their involvement in the preservation of Constantine's cultural heritage to achieve a development model of cultural tourism in Constantine. This study is based on a literature review and field surveys, the type of questionnaire includes different types of questions: open questions, Likert scale questions and multiple choice qualitative questions. A manual processing of the data was performed using the mean and standard deviation calculation. The results of this study reveal a misunderstanding of cultural tourism among local residents hence the need to develop a model of categorization of the objectives of the study (SPIP) which proposes four key principles for the development of local cultural tourism in the city of Constantine. However, unless the proposed model elements are incorporated, cultural tourism in this city would never emerge.
