Shenxian-Shengmai Oral Liquid Reduces Myocardial Oxidative Stress and Protects Myocardium from Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Abstract: Background/Aims: Shenxian-shengmai (SXSM) oral liquid, a Chinese patent compound medicine, has been used to treat sinus bradyarrhythmias induced by mild sick sinus syndrome in clinical practice. Myocardial ischemia, in particular in serious or right coronary-related heart diseases, can cause bradyarrhythmias and cardiac dysfunction. Moreover, reperfusion of ischemic myocardium is associated with additional myocardial damage known as myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. This study was designed to evalu… Show more

“…MAECs were incubated with different concentration of H 2 O 2 (Tianli Chemical Reagent Co., Tianjin, China) for 6 h to induce endothelial injury. Then cells were incubated with 5 mg/mL MTT (Solarbio, Beijing, China) for 4 h to determine cell viability ( 21 ).…”

“…MI, especially in right coronary-associated cardiac diseases, can give rise to bradyarrhythmias. A study [110] evaluated the functions of SXSM on bradyarrhythmias and cardiac insufficiency caused by myocardial I/R damage. Results showed that SXSM enhanced heart rate and protected from myocardial I/R damage.…”

“…Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the leading causes of death and disability globally ( Zhou et al, 2018 ). The most effective treatment is early myocardial reperfusion ( Zhao et al, 2018 ), which can also aggravate myocardial damage ( Majidi et al, 2009 ) due to ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury ( Tian et al, 2017 ; Zhang et al, 2019 ). I/R injury is probably caused by the reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction, calcium overload, apoptosis in cardiomyocytes ( Hoffman et al, 2004 ), and inflammatory response activation ( Bartekova et al, 2018 ).…”
