Shelf life enhancement of guava (Psidium guajava cv. Baruipur) stored under pilot scale modified atmosphere storage system

Abstract: Modified atmosphere storage (MAS) structure of 100 kg capacity has been developed for prolonging the shelf life of fresh guava. The influence of MAS on guava was investigated at 10 and 25 °C of storage temperature with unpacked guava as control. During storage study, the quality parameters of MAS stored guava, namely physiological weight loss (PWL), firmness, color (L*, a*, b*) and total soluble solids (TSS) were found to be 5.49%, 143.78 N, 76.20, 5.58, 50.81 and 12.3 ˚brix respectively, after 9 days of stora… Show more

“…India is the second largest producer of fruits by producing 97.36 million metric tonnes (MT) of fruits, which is around 13% of the total fruit production of the world (757.5 million MT) during the year 2018–2019. However, due to poor post‐harvest handling, transportation, storage and packaging techniques, India lost around 16% of its total fresh fruits during the year 2018–2019 (Mangaraj et al, 2021). Among all the fruits, apple is one of the common climacteric fruit crop grown across all the states of India.…”

“…Although the optimum storage temperature of apple for better shelf life is very low but, during transportation from temperate to tropical reason the temperature rise is inevitable. When the storage temperature increases substantially, it resulted into short shelf life of climacteric fruit (Mangaraj et al, 2021). Thereby, in that case the control of respiration rates of apple fruits is much crucial for better shelf life and market value.…”
