In this paper, an overview of the latest research activities in the field of cement-based composites incorporating sheep wool reinforcement is presented. First, the characteristics of this type of natural fibre are described. Then, the current use of sheep wool fibres in cement-based composites is discussed. The research problems regarding the properties of cement matrix composites reinforced with sheep wool are divided into four groups: thermal and acoustic properties, mechanical behavior, durability issues, and microstructure aspects. The latter two groups are analysed separately, because both durability and microstructure are of particular importance for future applications of wool reinforcement. Finally, the main directions of future researches are presented.

Use of natural material for development of sound absorbers received considerable significance since in past few years. Natural materials are preferred due to their ease of availability, low environmental impact, distinctive internal structure and reusability. One such natural material Peanut shell is made up of natural cellulose fibers and has good internal pores which can be utilized for sound absorption application. In the current study samples of Peanut shell specimens were made of 100mm diameter having different material to binder weight ratios. The test specimens were made with thickness 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 35mm and 40mm respectively. Normal incidence sound absorption coefficient for the specimens is measured using ASTM E1050-98 (Standard Test Method for Impedance and Absorption of Acoustical Materials Using a Tube, Two Microphones, and a Digital Frequency Analysis System) and values of the normal incidence sound absorption are compared with values obtained using Delany and Bazley Model. It was observed that Peanut shell test specimen with material to binder weight ratio 70:30 gives optimum average sound absorption for frequency range between 250Hz to 4500Hz. The current paper concludes that Peanut shell can prove to be good alternative natural material over existing conventional sound absorbing materials for application in field of sound absorption.

Wool geotextiles were formed from the meandrically arranged thick ropes and used as erosion control products. The geotextiles were installed in the experimental sites to protect the endangered slopes and the bank of ditches. Additionally, as a reinforcement of the soil, loose wool fibres were applied. The progress of wool biodegradation on the slope was investigated. Changes in the outer appearance, mechanical parameters, molecular structure and fibre morphology were analysed. Moreover, the nitrogen content in the soil and the effect of compounds released into soil on the grass growth were studied. The measurements revealed that the biodegradation starts at the cleavage of disulphide bonds, followed by disruption of the peptide bonds. Degradation is initiated in the outer cuticle and is followed by the decomposition of the inner cortical cells. During biodegradation, the nitrogen-rich compounds are released. The compounds act as an effective fertiliser which supports the growth of grass and significantly accelerates the greening of the slope.
