Shaking Table Test on Dynamic Response of Bedding Rock Slopes With Weak Structural Plane Under Earthquake

Abstract: Taking a bedding rock slope with weak structural plane as the prototype, a shaking table test with a similarity ratio of 1:10 is designed and carried out. By analyzing the acceleration and displacement responses at different positions of the slope, the seismic response and instability mechanism of rock bedding slope under different seismic amplitudes, frequencies, and durations are studied. Before the failure of the slope, the rock bedding slope shows an obvious “elevation effect” and “surface effect” under th… Show more

“…Te most direct research approach to studying the seismic behavior of structures is the shaking table test. In recent years, this method has been used wildly in embankment engineering [8][9][10][11]. However, there still have some shortcomings to this method, such as the huge cost and time-consuming, reduced scale model testing.…”

“…Te weak structural surfaces signifcantly afect the stabilization of rock slopes [11]. Fractures and cracks expand during rainfall and earthquakes, and directly trigger the occurrence of landslides [12]. Te tunnel structure and surrounding rock are vulnerable to damage in fracture zones under strong ground motion [13].…”

“…With the shaking table test, the motion state and the failure process of the test model under the action of an earthquake are recorded through the arrangement of sensors. Since it refects the dynamic response characteristics of the rocks under actual earthquake load in an accurate manner, it is widely used in the research study of the dynamic response patterns of rock masses [4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. Currently, the vibration test for the structure of rocks is limited to simplifying the rocky slope, so it is unable to measure the limit of tectonic stress.…”
