Sexualidade e deficiência intelectual: revisão integrativa da literatura

Abstract

Introduction:Society still deals in a prejudiced way with the sexuality of people with disabilities because it is "differences" in relation to the defining standards of normality, making this discussion pertinent to the construction of new approaches with this theme.Objective: To analyze the scientific evidences available in the national and international literature referring to the sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities. Methodology: Integrative review performed in the databases LILACS, SciELO and MEDLINE, between 2008 and 2017. The sample consisted of 19 articles, analyzed according to characteristics, research design, level of evidence and thematic categorization. Results and discussion : Publications in the areas of psychology predominated (26.3%) and interdisciplinary (26.3%), English language (52.6%), qualitative approach (31.6%), level of evidence IV (57.9%). The empirical categories converged to two main visions: the first highlights socially conventioned aspects that regulate the constitutive process of sexuality as a condition to promote the social inclusion of people with disabilities Intellectual. The second announces possibilities of changes and recognition of the sexual expressions of these people, however, indicates internal and institutional limitations with the differences. Final Considerations: Personalized support systems, devoid of repression, guilt and medicalization of conducts can help them to experience their sexuality.
