“…In the present results, stuttering speakers showed a stronger projection from the putamen to the thalamus than did non-stuttering speakers. This result makes sense because the basal ganglia have been found to correlate positively to the stuttering rate (in the case of the putamen) (Braun et al, 1997) and stuttering severity (in the case of the caudate nucleus) (Giraud et al, 2008). Further, the correlation disappeared when stuttering is improved (Giraud et al, 2008).…”
