Settlement Behaviour of Stabilised Peat: An Assessment With Eco-Processed Pozzolan (Epp) in Modified Electro-Osmotic Triaxial Cell

Abstract: Peat's settlement behavior is a classic problem in construction. The dominant feature of peat is when subjected to load, it is noted for its great compressibility, high moisture content, poor shear strength, and long-term settlement. This study adopts the method of electro-osmotic to stabilize peat soil with Eco Processed Pozzolan (EPP) in the modified electro-osmotic triaxial cell. Peat samples were tested incorporated of the controlled; peat soil, and treated samples; peat soil with 70% of EPP, peat soil wit… Show more

“…This finding is in line with the statement of the previous study, which is that EPP can potentially help reduce the shrinkage by almost 66.66% [38]. These improvements were identified as the phase of a crystalline material between peat and EPP relationships as discovered by Suhaimi & Mohamad [39], who observed crystalline structure in the presence of EPP and cement in peat soil. The set of reflections proves unambiguously that Eco Processed Pozzolan (EPP) contributed to peat soil stabilization.…”

“…There are various previous studies using this technique for the strengthening of soft soils. The efficacy of EPP has been exemplified in a recent study by Suhaimi & Mohamad [11], which verified that peat soil combined with EPP and cement as a binder will remarkably improve settling demeanor, resulting in minimal settling over time. In support to Suhaimi & Mohamad [11], Kho [12] study has shown that with the help of several superplasticizers, the insertion of recycled pozzolan, Eco Process Pozzolan (EPP), as a partial cement replacement in concrete has been demonstrated to be practical and effective, producing high consistency and strength outcomes.…”

“…In this study, it is identified as a crystallization process and visibly shown to attach to peat particles, as consistently shown in Figures 4-b, 4-c, and 4-d. The crystallization process occurred when a chemical substance attached to the peat particle, as described previously [27,28]. The morphologies of samples stabilized with NaOH demonstrate additional hydration with fewer microcracks.…”
