A Study on Linear Shrinkage Behavior of Peat Soil Stabilized with Eco-Processed Pozzolan (EPP)

Abstract: Peat soil incorporated materials from fragmented organic constituents that originated in submerged wetlands. Peat soil has a particular index property that accounts for more than 75% of its organic content. Due to its low shear strength, high moisture content, high compressibility, low specific gravity, restricted bearing capacity, irregular shrinkage, and instability, peat soil is interpreted as a challenging soil for the building industry. The purpose of this study is to look at the index properties of Klias… Show more

“…The increments in elemental composition values from Peat + EPP 10% (%) to > Peat + EPP 40% (%) show the potential of EPP research as a stabilizer material. This finding is in line with the statement of the previous study, which is that EPP can potentially help reduce the shrinkage by almost 66.66% [38]. These improvements were identified as the phase of a crystalline material between peat and EPP relationships as discovered by Suhaimi & Mohamad [39], who observed crystalline structure in the presence of EPP and cement in peat soil.…”

“…The most important factors are the carbon nitrogen ratio and lignin content in the quality of litter [23], which can promote or inhibit mineralization. However, due to the difference of climate, vegetation and soil type in different ecosystems [24,25], the impact of litter addition on organic carbon mineralization varies greatly. The experimental process can be expressed through models [26], among which the first-order kinetic model can effectively describe the mineralization process of soil after adding different litters.…”

“…There are two (2) categories in evaluating characteristics of dynamic loading behaviour [7]. The post cyclic yield shear strength of undisturbed peat soil is considerably lower compared to static shear strength [8].…”
