“…Among the lignans of sesame, sesamin has been investigated most often for antiaging effects. Sesamin extended the life span in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster [340] and the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans [341,342]. In D. melanogaster mutant depleted of superoxide dismutase, which exhibits a shortened lifespan and accelerated aging-related phenotype, sesamin extended the life span, suppressed the decline of motoric activities, and delayed aging-related loss of dopaminergic neurons in the brain [343].…”

“…PMK-1 is a kinase that plays an important role in immune defense and longevity in the MAPK pathway. In addition, sesamin can also act as a mimic of DR. Sesamin depends on SIR-2.1/SIRT1, AAK-2/AMPK, an autophagic modulator BEC-1, and daf-15 , which encodes the target of TOR-binding partner raptor, to promote longevity (Yaguchi et al, 2014 ; Nakatani et al, 2018 ). The inhibition of the TOR pathway is another well-known intervention method to prolong lifespan.…”

“…Sesamin is derived from sesame seeds and exerts antiaging effects (Yaguchi et al., 2014). Sesamin supplementation eliminates the lifespan extension of daf‐15 (which encodes the target of TOR‐binding partner Raptor) and aak‐2 mutants, indicating that several DR‐related signaling pathways, including SIRT1, TOR, and AMPK, mediate the antiaging effect of sesamin in nematodes (Nakatani et al., 2018).…”
