Services and simulation frameworks for vehicular cloud computing: a contemporary survey

Abstract: Vehicular cloud is getting significant research attention due to the technological advancements in smart vehicles. In near future, vehicles are envisioned to become part of a grid network providing cloud services, such as computing, storage, network, and application as a service. Vehicular cloud computing is an emerging area, designed to support delay-sensitive applications. However, this integration of vehicular network and cloud computing introduces new challenges for the research community. New frameworks h… Show more

“…Many researchers select NS-2 because it is an open-source simulator, has already had many implementations, and it is easy to edit to their needs. NS-2 also allows the use of several mobility generators, such as VanetMobiSim, MOVE, or SUMO, which improve the scenario design, making evaluations more realistic [71,72]. However, several recent investigations have shown a tendency to use Veins and OMNET [73].…”

“…The two-transmitter case was considered, but it did not consider the direct transmission case between the source vehicle and destination vehicle. The introduction of vehicular cloud computing has promoted the development of related vehicular technologies [24,25]. In Reference [26], two opportunistic relay selection algorithms were proposed and the results showed that the selected relay had an impact on the interference generated in the network and the stability of the relay.…”

“…But this type of service requires a lot of complex data processing and calculations. By acquiring the corresponding computing resources from the cloud computing center, the unmanned vehicle can realize advanced application services such as environment recognition and driving cooperation, and form a vehicle-mounted cloud computing VCC (Vehicular Cloud Computing) [1,2]. However, a large number of computing tasks and frequent data transmission may cause the cloud device to be overloaded, so that the calculation cannot be completed in time.…”
