Service Registry Design

Abstract: A service registry is a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) component that keeps a ‘catalogue’ of available services. It stores service specifications so that these specifications can be found by potential users. Discussions on the design of service registries currently focus on technical issues, while service registries should take into consideration information needs of business domain users. In this regard, the authors consider service registries as information services and develop a comprehensive framework… Show more

“…At the shared services network level, duplicated business processes are eliminated. At the shared services center level, all required workflows are optimized so that the services are provided at lowest costs (Pires, van Oostrum, & Wijnhoven, 2010;Tsafarakis, Delias, & Matsatsinis, 2013).…”

“…After being formally described, service descriptions need to be published so that a service consumer is enabled to find services based on their descriptions. Service registries are used to this aim (Pires, van Oostrum, & Wijnhoven, 2010). In our approach, the WSDL descriptions are published in registries implemented using the Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration API (UDDI) (http://www.uddi.org/ pubs/Iru_UDDI_Technical_White_Paper.pdf), one of the standards for creating XML-based registries.…”

“…In this work, in order to address the challenges, we introduce a service oriented approach that incorporates all the necessary processes for designing an optimal product or service. The service oriented approach seems quite promising as similar approaches have been adopted both in the modeling phase of business services (e.g., procurement in (Galinec, 2009)) and in Information Services (Pires et al, 2010). The proposed system employs a market simulation model, provides the decision maker with a set of (near) optimal product profiles, and incorporates the possible retaliatory moves from the competitors.…”
