Service-oriented middleware for large-scale mobile participatory sensing

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce MobIoT, a service-oriented middleware that enables large-scale mobile participatory sensing. Scalability is achieved by limiting the participation of redundant sensing devices. Precisely, MobIoT allows a new device to register its services only if it increases the sensing coverage of a physical attribute, along its expected path, for the set of registered devices. We present the design and implementation of MobIoT, which mobile devices use to determine their registration decision an… Show more

“…CHOReOS [107], [108] enables large scale choreographies or compositions of adaptable, QoS-aware, and heterogeneous services in IoT. It addresses scalability, interoperability, mobility, and adaptability issues in through approaches like scalable probabilistic thing-based service registries and discoveries [91], [109]. CHOReOS is composed of four components: eXecutable Service Composition (XSC) to coordinate the composition of services and things, eXtensible Service Access (XSA) to access services and things, eXtensible Service Dis-covery (XSD) to manage protocols and processes for discovery of services and things, and the Cloud and Grid middleware to manage computational resources and drives the deployment of choreographies.…”

“…The service in SOA is a software that hides its internal implementation details and provides through an invokable interface a public functionnality [12]. Service oriented architecture (SOA) allows to reuse hardware and software more easily since there is no constraints on the technology that should be used in service implementation [1].…”

“…SOFIA [16] and GSN pay more attention to this point by devoting more interest to data/objects abstractions and study their integration to services. In [12], MobIoT, a Thing-based Service-Oriented middleware is proposed. It is SOA based framework that offers discovery, composition and access functionalities for IoT applications.…”
