Middleware for Internet of Things: A Study

Abstract: The significant progress in smart devices has lead to the shifting of actual Internet to the Internet of Things (IoT). Internet of Things is invading our real lives. In this new Internet vision, trillions of smart dynamic objects and areas will be connected to the Internet and interact between each others to achieve common applications. This new Internet vision requires suitable IoT infrastructure that offers the main Internet of Things functionalities to facilitate the development of IoT applications. Middlew… Show more

“…A huge amount of work is available in the literature about IoT middleware and the multiple challenges they face [11], [12], [13]. Interesting and structured surveys are in [14], [15], [16], [17]. In order to build distributed systems, software engineers have to know which middleware is available, which one is best suited to the problems at hand, and how middleware can be used in the architecture, design and implementation of distributed systems.…”

“…These aspects have a critical impact on non-functional requirements of the system that should be given special attention by developers. (Fersi 2015), (Ahmad 2014), (Ruiz-Lopez et.al 2013), (Namirimu 2015), (Xiao et al 2014) are new features for traditional systems and basic for the systems of pervasive computing. In other words, the systems must be able to identify, analyze and react to changes in work environment, namely, have the ability to add, eliminate, replace services, procedures and processing processes, so as to be able to cope with the dynamic context and reach their goals.…”

“…Also, it is important to have common semantics for concepts with which the IoT will operate to make possible the cooperation and communication among objects. (Fersi 2015), , (Zambonelli 2016), (Houyou et al 2012). Functionality must be provided to systems, irrespective of the number of connected objects.…”
