“…For PCB, some human studies have found statistically significant associations with spontaneous abortion (Bercovici et al, 1983; Leoni et al, 1989), while others have not (Dar et al, 1992; Axmon et al, 2004). There was a suggested, although not statistically significant, increase in stillbirth among women in the Yucheng cohort, who were exposed to high levels of PCB through contaminated cooking oil (Yu et al, 2000).…”

“…The average total urine porphyrin concentration for the workers was 94.5 pg/l versus 48.3 pg/l in the controls. In children transplacentally exposed to PCBs during Yu-Cheng, total urine porphyrin content was increased versus controls (95.2 pg/l vs 80.7 pg/l, respectively) (36) (38,39). Appreciable levels of total DDT in serum were also found in the affected women (119.6 vs 26.5 ng/ml).…”

“…Significant associations have been seen among malaria control, vineyard, and cotton field workers who have been exposed to a combination of organochlorine and other pesticides, the mean concentration of estimated DDE was 61 g/g fat in the malaria control program with the average exposure 15 years [44][45][46]. Other studies in India [47][48][49], the Ukraine [50], Israel [51,52], and China [53] have found elevated serum levels of DDT, or its metabolite DDE in women who have had a spontaneous or missed abortion. In a study of 1717 American women it was found that a median level of 25 g DDE/L serum was associated with a modest increased risk of SA, RR 1.1; however, the 95% CI (0.9-1.5) crossed 1.0 [54,55].…”
