“…Low plasma zinc and high plasma copper have been observed in different liver dis eases such as human alcoholic liver cirrhosis, viral hepatitis and CCl4-induced cirrhosis in rats [Vallee et al, 1956;Sinha and Gabrieli, 1970;Dashti et al, 1984;Henkin and Smith, 1972;Kahn and Ozeran, 1967]. We also found decreased plasma zinc levels in CC14 and thioacetamide-induced cirrhotic rats.…”

“…Statistically there was no difference in mean serum zinc levels among males and females (p = 0.773). The current data demonstrated that there is a insignificant week positive correlation between zinc (mg/l) and age of patients in the study group, this result agree with the result observed by Sinha and Gabrieli 1970 (14) . Who analyzed serum zinc levels in 200 apparently healthy volunteers (100 males, 100 females) to establish their normal range.…”

“…Also serum copper and ceruloplasmin (an acute phase reactant synthesized in the liver) have been reported to be useful markers of disease activity in patients with carcinoma of the breast, lung, gastrointestinal tract. acute leukemias and Hodgkin's and nonHodgkin's lymphoma (8)(9)(10) elevated in non-malignant conditions, such as pregnancy, thyrotoxicosis, cirrhosis, and infections ( 1 I).…”
