Serotyping, RAPD Grouping and Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing of Salmonella Enterica Isolated from Retail Foods in Thailand

Abstract: and 7%, respectively, tested positive for Salmonella spp., whereas the corresponding contamination rates were 5%, 5%, 0% and 0% for the supermarket samples. The resistance of the isolates towards sixteen antibiotics was tested.A high percentage of the isolates were resistant to streptomycin, tetracycline or ampicillin: 78%, 59% and 51%, respectively. In total, 152 isolates were resistant to at least one antibiotic, and of these, 98 (64%) were resistant to at least three antibiotics (multidrug-resistant). The m… Show more

“…Out of 112 research papers related to foodborne pathogens in Thailand from 2012 to 2021, 33 were considered for meta-analysis [ 4 , 31 , 34 , 35 , [69] , [70] , [71] , [72] , [73] , [74] , [75] , [76] , [77] , [78] , [79] , [80] , [81] , [82] , [83] , [84] , [85] , [86] , [87] , [88] , [89] , [90] , [91] , [92] , [93] , [94] , [95] , [96] , [97] ]. “…In Thailand, fresh foods sold at open markets such as meat, eggs and sea-food represent an important source of foodborne diseases due to their easy contamination by pathogens [ [30] , [31] , [32] , [33] , [34] ]. The food conservation at environmental temperature, without strict hygienic and temperature control, favors cross-contamination in storing facilities and distributing channels like shipping from slaughterhouse to the markets [ 35 , 36 ]. Consequently, Taiwan and India has adapted several plans to limit AMR and MDR spreading.…”

“…Salmonella is a gram-negative, motile, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped facultative anaerobic bacteria that belong to the Enterobacteriaceae family. 15,29 Salmonella species enterica and bongori are further classified into six subspecies based on the taxonomy created by Le Minor and Popoff in 1987. 27,15 Because it was formerly believed that each serotype had its own species, the genus Salmonella was previously divided into a number of other species.…”
