Serotonin and histamine in platelets in the course of operation with extracorporeal circulation

Abstract: Daring open-heart surgery with extracorporeal circulation, platelets lose serotonin while taking up histamine. Thus, platelets may be involved in the elimination of increased histamine plasma levels. The storage mechanisms for serotonin and histamine in platelets seem to function independently.
