Seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus infection in individuals with clinical evidence of hepatitis in Goiânia, Goiás: detection of viral DNA and determination of subtypes

Abstract

SUMMARYThe presence of serological markers for hepatitis B virus (HBsAg, anti-HBc IgM and Anti-HBc total) was investigated in the serum of 1,396 individuals who had clinical suspect of hepatitis. It was observed that 50.7% of the individuals were positive and, from the total of the studied individuals, 14.5% were positive for HBsAg. From these, 8.5% were also positive for anti-HBc IgM. The analysis in relation to gender showed a higher seroprevalence index among male individuals (p < 0.0001). It was observed the occurrence of subtypes adw 2 (62.7%), ayw 3 (23.5%), ayw 2 (9.8%) and adw 4 (3.9%). The viral DNA was detected in 61 (33.9%) HBsAg positive samples and in one sample positive only for anti-HBc total. These results indicate an important incidence of the HBV infection in this population, and reinforce previous studies regarding this virus in the central west region of Brazil.

Seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus infection and seroconvertion to anti-HBsAg in laboratory staff in Goiânia, Goiás

Infecção oculta pelo vírus da hepatite B em comunidade amazônica submetida a intenso fluxo migratório, estado do Pará, Brasil

“…Um estudo de prevalência das hepatites B e C entre mineradores da Amazônia brasileira, expostos à malária, encontrou os subtipos adw2 (59,0%), adw4 (8,1%), ayw3 (8,1%) e ayw2 (5,4%) 58 . Entre pacientes com clínica evidente de hepatite, atendidos no sistema público de saúde de Goiânia, estado de Goiás, sobre a soroprevalência de infecção pelo VHB, foram identificados os subtipos adw2 (62,7%), ayw3 (23,5%), ayw2 (9,8%) e adw4 (3,9%) 59 . Em contrapartida, em pacientes hospitalizados em Porto Alegre, estado do Rio Grande do Sul, foram encontrados principalmente os subtipos ayw (60,4%) em pacientes com genótipo D, adw (34,0%) em pacientes com genótipo A e adw4 (5,4%) em pacientes com genótipo F, evidenciando que a distribuição dos genótipos e subtipos virais encontrados nos diferentes estudos pode refletir o padrão de ocupação do vírus nas diferentes regiões do país 51 .…”
