Serologic and Molecular Detection of Mycoplasma gallisepticum in Layer Flocks in South Marmara Region of Turkey

Abstract: Background: Due to the economic impacts of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) infection in poultry, it is essential to have a fast, reliable and accurate diagnostic test to diagnose the infection. Aims: It was aimed to examine the presence of MG in the South Marmara Region of Turkey where extensive commercial layer flocks exist by RPA, ELISA and real-time PCR. Materials and Methods: In the study, 981 sera and 160 tracheal swab samples (20 swabs per each flock) obtained from eight layer flocks were exami… Show more

“…IgM antibodies will be detected in RPA 7-10 days after infection and the last 70-80 days. IgG antibodies will be detected by ELISA 3-4 weeks after infection, whereas IgG antibodies last up to 6 months [9]. This study shows a low agreement index between the techniques analyzed.…”

“…Other studies have previously provided evidence that chronic infection could happen as MG can modulate the host response by immunostimulation and immunosuppression during infection [2]. Various studies [9] state that delayed antibodies make an early diagnosis of MG difficult. IgM antibodies will be detected in RPA 7-10 days after infection and the last 70-80 days.…”
