Series active conditionners for reliable Smart grid: A comprehensive review

Abstract: The development of active power compensators and power conditioners lead to eminent solutions to improve power quality. Among these emerging solutions, the Series Active Filter is relatively immature compared to shunt and hybrid configurations. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the Series compensator history, configurations, control strategies, and related involvements in this field. It provides a perspective of Series active compensator's technology to researchers dealing with power quality issues… Show more

“…By taking the path of renewable energies and distributed generations by governments [1], sensitive loads, vulnerable to voltage distortions have appeal to power electronics to insure them against these perturbations. Hence, Dynamic voltage restorers (DVR) were created to overcome voltage issues [2,3].…”

“…To achieve these goals, it must be studied new types of power electronics devices, extend the existing power electronics devices capabilities and inherently study new types of control systems. To achieve good Power Quality indexes, future Smart Grid probably will have to integrate different Power Quality Conditioners [3], [4]. Today are available several types of Power Quality Conditioners, namely shunt conditioners [5], series conditioners [4], and the integrated approach known as Unified Power Quality Conditioners (UPQC) [4], [6].…”

“…Power quality problems have been a constant problem in electrical power grids along the years. Today exist different power electronics solutions to deal with power quality problems, which are classified as shunt conditioners [1][2], series conditioners [3], and an integrated approach of shunt and series conditioners known as Unified Power Quality Conditioners (UPQC) [4] [5]. The Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is connected in parallel with the electrical power grid to compensate current problems.…”
