Abstract. Sopacua F, Wijayanto N, Wirnas D. 2021. Growth of three types of sengon (Paraserianthes spp.) in varying planting spaces in agroforestry system. Biodiversitas 22: 4423-4430. Sengon (Paraserianthes spp.) is a fast-growing tree species that is commonly cultivated in the agroforestry system by communities in Indonesia, mainly on Java Island. Among several types of sengon, Solomon sengon is currently gaining popularity due to the fast growth in height and stem diameter. Nonetheless, the spacing layout of selected sengon types is unclear, including Solomon sengon, which yields more optimal growth. This study aimed to examine the growth of three sengon types (i.e., Solomon F2, Solomon F1, and local Kendal) in three spacing patterns, namely 1.5x1.5m, 3x1.5m, and 3x3m. This research was conducted from October 2019 to January 2020 (three months) in the Cikabayan Forest, Bogor Agricultural University, Bogor, West Java. The parameters of sengon growth observed were plant height, height growth rate, stem diameter, stem diameter growth rate, tree volume, and canopy area. Data analysis was performed using ANOVA and continued with Duncan's. The results showed that all types of sengon had optimal growth in the agroforestry system at various spacings. The growth of Solomon F2 adapted well to denser spacings (1.5x1.5m and 1.5x3m) with the highest averages in plant height, stem diameter, volume, and canopy area of ??10.50 m, 8.65 cm, 0.36 m3, and 5.39 m2. Local Kendal had optimal growth at a wider spacing (3x3m) with the highest average stem diameter, volume, and canopy area of ??8.96 cm, 0.043 m3, and 1063 m2. While Solomon F1 adapted well to the three spacings with the highest average in plant height, the growth rate of plant height, stem diameter, volume, and canopy area of ??10.05 m, 1.54 m, 8.59 cm, 0.042 m2, and 2075.30 m2. In general, it can be concluded that the Solomon F1 sengon can adapt well to narrow distances or wide distances. While Solomon F2 is more recommended to be planted at a narrower distance and Kendal local sengon is more recommended to be planted at a wider distance to get optimal growth.

Hutan rakyat adalah hutan tanaman yang tumbuh di atas lahan milik rakyat atau masyarakat. Sengon (Falcataria moluccana) dan balsa (Ochroma pyramidale) merupakan jenis multi fungsi dan cepat tumbuh yang banyak dibudidayakan di Indonesia, khususnya di Pulau Jawa. Serangan penyakit hutan merupakan ancaman yang berpotensi mengganggu kegiatan budidaya kedua jenis ini, serta dapat merugikan secara ekologi, ekonomi, dan sosial. Pengenalan penyakit hutan merupakan kegiatan preventif yang sangat penting dalam pengelolaan penyakit hutan itu sendiri. Tujuan pengabdian pada masyarakat dalam “Program Dosen IPB Pulang Kampung” ini adalah sebagai upaya capacity building masyarakat sekitar hutan melalui penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan pendampingan terkait pengenalan (identifikasi) dan pengelolaan penyakit pada hutan tanaman yang ditujukan bagi para masyarakat petani hutan dan/atau pihak (stakeholder) terkait di Desa Ngancar, Kabupaten Kediri, Jawa Timur. Secara umum, program ini membantu meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pengalaman peserta dalam mengidentifikasi penyakit hutan tanaman, khususnya untuk jenis sengon dan balsa. Hal tersebut diindikasikan dari hasil penilaian dan evaluasi terhadap kuisioner (pre- dan post-test) para peserta pelatihan yang menunjukkan peningkatan, masing-masing, yaitu 7% (pelatihan Gelombang I) dan 9% (pelatihan Gelombang II). Community forests are forest plantations that grow on land owned by the people or community. Sengon (Falcataria moluccana) and balsa (Ochroma pyramidale) are multi-functional and fast-growing species that are widely cultivated in Indonesia, especially on the island of Java. Forest disease outbreaks are a potential threat that can disrupt the cultivation of these two species, and can cause ecological, economic, and social harm. The introduction of forest disease is a preventive action that is very important in managing of forest diseases. The aim of the community service in the “Program Dosen IPB Pulang Kampung” is to build the capacity of communities around the forest through counselling, training, and assistance related to the identification and management of diseases in forest plantations, targeting forest farmers and/or stakeholders in Ngancar Village, Kediri Regency, East Java. In general, this program helps to increase the knowledge and experience of participants in identifying forest diseases, specifically for sengon and balsa species. This is indicated by the results of the assessment and evaluation of questionnaires (pre- and post-tests) of the training participants, which showed an increase of 7% (Batch I) and 9% (Batch II).

Transformation adaptation arises due to increased deforestation and how communities around the forest adapt to sustain their lives. Uncertainty over forest area control can hinder the effectiveness of forest management. In order to accommodate the functions of protection and use of the economy in a balanced, the government has issued a policy on forest resource management since the Old Order era developed into the New Order era to the present era. This study aims to describe the development of community adaptation to changes in forest management patterns in Wajak District. The research was conducted in Wajak District, Malang Regency. The stages of data analysis in this qualitative research were carried out with interactive techniques, including data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing or verification. Researchers use two techniques, including triangulation (combined) from the type of source and technique triangulation. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the transformation of forest management patterns based on each transition period included planting, maintenance, profit sharing collection, processing and marketing of forest products, as well as the form of cooperation policies with Forest Village Community or Masyarakat Desa Hutan (MDH) in Wajak District. Transformation adaptation of community in forest areas changes in line with the Social Forestry policy. At present, this transformation has an impact that the community feels in terms of social, economic, and environmental aspects. Other impacts include open access to community development and empowerment programs, diverse community livelihoods, and environmental conservation in the forest.
