A socio-natural disaster event exacerbates pre-existing socio-economic crises and disrupts the life projects of the people affected, generating the deployment of strategic or tactical actions to deal with it. When societies have populations living in conditions of social vulnerability prior to disasters, such actions are more complex and difficult to manage. On March 25, 2015 (25M), the inhabitants of the towns of Chañaral and Diego de Almagro, in the Atacama Region of Chile, were faced with a flood that produced a crisis of great magnitude. This qualitative research describes the actions the inhabitants used to reduce social vulnerability, before, during and after the emergency. These actions were analyzed to describe the extent of planning, meanings, resources and structures of opportunities present in the actions. Content analysis was carried out on semi-structured interviews with 38 affected people, selected using intentional sampling technique together with snowball sampling. Subjective resources were identified: sense of family, solidarity, autonomy and restitution of rights. The superimposed mobilization of these resources resulted in a complex situation of resilience. It is concluded that the way of learning actions includes family and cultural habits, daily learning and previous experiences, and imitation, among others. Recommendations are made to be considered for the reduction of risks of socio-natural disasters. Specifically, policies that include educational strategies that are based on theways of acting shown by the communities.

El presente artículo es un estado del arte sobre el concepto de violencia simbólica en el contextoacadémico latinoamericano. El texto abarca la revisión de artículos, libros y tesis que abordan dichoconcepto en el período 2009-2019. Si bien el concepto es introducido por el sociólogo francés PierreBourdieu, a finales del siglo pasado (XX), en el siguiente trabajo no se hará una revisión exhaustiva dela obra de Bourdieu, sino de los autores que han usado el concepto como eje de sus investigacionessobre América Latina. El método utilizado consistió en una revisión documental con el software deanálisis cualitativo ATLAS.ti y luego se hizo un examen más cualitativo y en profundidad de lostextos. Se halló que el concepto se ha desarrollado en los siguientes campos académicos: estudios degénero y feminismo; estudios sociales y políticos, y en análisis educativos y pedagógicos. La mayorutilización del concepto se ubica en el campo de los estudios de género, donde hay una mayorcantidad de publicaciones sobre esta categoría. La cantidad de estudios y la manera en la cual elconcepto se ha instrumentalizado en los últimos diez años, da cuenta de que la obra de Bourdieusigue siendo un objeto propicio para hacer de la sociología un deporte de combate.

El presente trabajo analiza la dimensión subjetiva de la vulnerabilidad-capacidad de familias desplazadas por un terremoto en Chile. Se utilizó un diseño de caso cualitativo seleccionando, vía muestreo teórico, 10 jefas de hogar y tres agentes institucionales vinculados con el desplazamiento y reconstrucción habitacional posdesastre. Los datos son producidos mediante la entrevista episódica, utilizando como estrategia de análisis el proceso de codificación de la teoría fundamentada. Como primer resultado, se encuentran diferencias en los significados asignados al desplazamiento por las instituciones respondedoras y las familias reubicadas. A nivel institucional, predominó una razón instrumental del habitar reducida a la facilitación de satisfactores para la sobrevivencia y a la mera ocupación topográfica de un espacio físico-material. Mientras que, para las familias reubicadas, vivir en el campamento constituyó una intensificación de la “experiencia continua de vulnerabilización”, significándolo como un “no lugar” de tránsito circunstancial. En un segundo resultado, se identificaron cuatro capacidades familiares de afrontamiento, las cuales, si bien no subvirtieron la vulnerabilidad social estructural, posibilitaron la emergencia de cuatro configuraciones tácticas de agenciamiento resistente ante el desastre: resignación, individualismo, ocultamiento y solidaridad. Las conclusiones sostienen la importancia de integrar la dimensión subjetiva de la vulnerabilidad-capacidad ante el proceso de desplazamiento ambiental, con el fin de orientar procesos de reubicación e intervención psicosocial sustentados en una perspectiva multidimensional del habitar.
