Sequence-selective encapsulation and protection of long peptides by a self-assembled FeII8L6 cubic cage

Abstract: Self-assembly offers a general strategy for the preparation of large, hollow high-symmetry structures. Although biological capsules, such as virus capsids, are capable of selectively recognizing complex cargoes, synthetic encapsulants have lacked the capability to specifically bind large and complex biomolecules. Here we describe a cubic host obtained from the self-assembly of FeII and a zinc-porphyrin-containing ligand. This cubic cage is flexible and compatible with aqueous media. Its selectivity of encapsul… Show more

“…[1] In particular, the coordination-driven self-assembly is apowerful route for synthesising "programmed" molecules with diverse architectures and physicochemical properties, including magnetic and luminescence properties. [2] Over the previous few decades,t he Lehn [3] and Sauvage [4] groups have conducted pioneering research related to the feasibility and utility of coordination-driven self-assembly for the formation of diverse structures,m ainly by controlling the kinetic and thermodynamic processes.F urthermore,t he research groups of Stang, [5] Fujita, [6] Mirkin, [7] Nitschke, [8] Shionoya, [9] and others [10] have exploited novel paradigms for the self-assem-bly of discrete metallacycles and metallacages with welldefined shapes and sizes.…”

“…Moreover, strong synergisms of Cur with 1 and 4 with combinatorial indexes of <1 across all of the cell lines were observed. An induced apoptosis with fragmented DNA pattern and inhibited expression of phosphor-STAT3 supported the improved therapeutic potential of Cur in heteroternary complex 5. supramolecular coordination complex | orthogonal self-assembly | metallacycle | cancer | drug delivery C oordination-driven self-assembly via metal-ligand interactions is an efficient strategy for preparing discrete supramolecular coordination complexes (SCCs) with predesigned shapes and sizes (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6). The well-defined core structures of SCCs further facilitate the introduction of functional groups on the interior and/or exterior vertices of these frameworks, leading to the formation of functional systems useful in selective encapsulation (7), sensing (8), optical and electronic materials (9), drug delivery (10), and so on (11)(12)(13)(14).…”
