Structure Switching and Modulation of the Magnetic Properties in Diarylethene‐Bridged Metallosupramolecular Compounds by Controlled Coordination‐Driven Self‐Assembly

Abstract: We report three self‐assembled iron complexes that comprised an anti‐parallel open form (o‐Lanti), a parallel open form (o‐Lsyn), and a closed form (c‐L) of diarylethene conformers. Under kinetic control, FeII2(o‐Lanti)3 was isolated, which exhibited a dinuclear structure with diamagnetic properties. Under light‐irradiation control, FeII2(c‐L)3 was prepared and exhibited paramagnetism and spin‐crossover behaviour. Under thermodynamic control and in the presence of indispensable [FeIII(Tp*)(CN)3]−, FeII2(o‐Lant… Show more

[2] Recently,k inetic factors have been found to be important for synthesizing and controlling coordination-driven structures and functions.F or example, the assembly kinetics can strongly influence the mode of molecular packing,w here different synthesis pathways can often lead to distinct self-assembled structures with unique morphologies and functions. “…Since the behaviors of χ M T change between o-1-Co(II) and c-1-Co(II) obtained at room temperature are similar with the thermally induced SCO behavior, a new light-driven SCO switch has been clearly verified. The LS state stabilization of closed-ring isomer exhibits a strong ligand field, which is the main reason of the light-driven HS-LS transition [21,[56][57][58].…”

“…Owing to the light-induced open-and closed-ring isomerization, dithienylethene (DTE)-type photochromic materials have attracted broad interest for their extensive application in switching devices, optical memories, optoelectronics, magnetics, bio-imaging and therapy, etc. [36][37][38][39][40][41] Among which, it is intriguing to employ the specic photo-responsiveness of DTE to build composite logical operating systems on a molecular or supramolecular level. For this purpose, various organics, organometallics, and metal-organic supramolecular or hybrid systems have been designed, including some wonderful work such as the light-switchable coordination cages reported by Clever and so on.…”
