Separation of oil-water mixture in tank

Abstract: Experimental investigations have been carried out to separate diesel oil-water mixture in unbaffled, baffled (with different inclination of baffle), and variable area baffled separators. A baffle separator with a 45 inclination to vertical has been found to be most suitable for the oil-water separation.

“…These emulsions cause problems at different down-stream stages of production. Corrosion of pipes, pumps, and processing equipment, as well as deactivation of catalysts, are all consequences of the presence of water droplets [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Therefore, the phases are usually separated before they are transported over long distances.…”

“…This is because both of them are the comprehensive manifestation of the joint influence of oil droplet particle size, shape, density, surface tension and other factors, reflecting the resistance to the water when the oil droplet interacts with the water body, which is one of the most vital physical quantities in the kinematic properties of oil. It can not only be directly applied to practical industrial problems such as the design of oil separator tanks in sewage treatment and oil-water separation devices in oil extraction, but can also be used immediately in research on the migration behaviors of oil spills in inland rivers or marine environments, which is a crucial technical parameter for the construction of oil spill models [32].…”
