Separation of Enantiomers of Drugs by Capillary Electrophoresis, Part 6. Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin as Chiral Solvating Agent

Abstract: SummaryFollowing an extended screening project, 86 racemic drugs were investigated by capillary zone electrophoresis in the presence of the chiral solvating agent (CSA) hydroxypropyl-b-cyclodextrin. A total of 42 drugs out of 86 tested was thereby separated into enantiomeric pairs. Statistical analysis of the numerous experiments performed un der identical conditions reveals a loose correlation of the migration separation factor (a m ) with the migration retardation factor (R m ). For a subset of 23 drugs, a d… Show more

“…This method is the most efficient separation technique available for the analysis of both large and small molecules. There are six types of capillary electro separation available but the most commonly used technique seems to be CZE, which is widely used for analyses of various substances, including active pharmaceutical ingredients (either in formulations or biological fluids), drug counter ions . Taking this into account we decided to use this method to detection and separation of compounds with biological activity.…”

“…A comprehensive study of the effect of nature of CD on enantioresolution had been undertaken in a series of works by Koppenhoefer et al. using ofloxacin as a prober. Table summarizes their results in terms of migration enantioselectivity coefficient α m .…”
