Sensitivity Analysis of the Transmission Chain of a Horizontal Machining Tool Axis to Design and Control Parameters

Abstract: This paper reports how a numerical controlled machine axis was studied through a lumped parameter model. Firstly, a linear model was derived in order to apply a modal analysis, which estimated the first mechanical frequency of the system as well as its damping coefficients. Subsequently, a nonlinear system was developed by adding friction through experimentation. Results were validated through the comparison with a commercial servoaxis equipped with a Siemens controller. The model was then used to evaluate the… Show more

“…9 This work presents a theoretical analysis of the influence of the control parameters on the machine tool that affect the dynamics of the axis and the life of the ball screw as well, through a simulation approach with nominal fatigue life calculation. The analysis in this article is based on the axis numerical model developed by Mauro et al 10 and it expands the previous studies.…”

“…The mathematical model of the machine tool longitudinal axis is similar to the one developed by Mauro et al, which is here summarized. For a detailed description of the axis model, refer to Mauro et al 10 A lumped parameter model was assembled starting from a representation of the axis, identifying all the rigid bodies with inertia and connecting them by means of elastic and damping elements, which represent the stiffness and damping coefficient of the bodies mechanically connected in series.…”

“…In recent years, it mainly focuses on reliability analysis 9 and fault risk assessment of CNC machine tools. 10 Manihalla et al 11 established the reliability calculation model of parts by collecting the fault data of a vertical machining center to predict the best maintenance frequency.…”
