“…In conjunction with LDF, the mechanism used to measure the capillary blood flow directly under the skin during dialysis has been previously reported [2830]. This method was developed to measure the blood flow at the skin surface and to evaluate the function of autonomic neurons.…”

“…A ROC analysis to determine the cut-off point was based on this logistic analysis, and the cut-off point was defined according to Youden’s method [25–27]. A further covariate-adjusted ROC analysis was performed based on the logistic analysis using covariates obtained from the stepwise method for logistic analysis of outcomes [27–30]. All statistical analyses were performed using SAS 9.3 (SAS).…”

“…In the present case, EBF during walking was measured on a separate day from the leg bathing as an indicator of peripheral circulation. Goma et al ( 2015) [11] and Goma et al (2017) [12] reported that immediately after orthostasis, EBF showed a transient decrease and the recovery response synchronized with arterial blood pressure in healthy subjects and that patients with diabetic neuropathy showed reduced auricular blood flow. From the above, they mentioned the possibility of indirectly assessing blood pressure regulation by the autonomic nervous system by measuring EBF.…”

“…10) The portable LDF was developed to evaluate the functions of the autonomic nervous system by measuring the blood flow at the skin surface. While portable LDF has been applied in managing several diseases, [11][12][13] its usefulness has not yet been evaluated for diagnosing PAD in dialysis patients. Since the pulse amplitude measured with the portable LDF showed a high diagnostic value for PAD in dialysis patients and the measurement could easily be made during an HD session, we consider that measurement of the pulse amplitude with a portable LDF is a superior to measurement of the ABI and TBI as a screening tool for PAD.…”
