Sensitive Bromatometric Methods for the Determination of Sumatriptan Succinate in Pharmaceutical Formulations

Abstract: Two simple and sensitive spectrophotometric methods are described for the determination of sumatriptan succinate (STS) in pure and tablets using bromate-bromide as the bromination reagent in acid medium and two dyes as subsidiary reagents. The two methods are based on the bromination of STS by a known excess ofin situgenerated bromine followed by determination of unreacted bromine by reacting with a fixed amount of methyl orange (Method A) or indigo carmine (Method B) and measuring the absorbance at 508 or 610… Show more

“…1) is a selective serotonin (5-HT1) agonist and commonly utilized for the remediation of severe headache period of migraine symptoms [1] . Different procedures were reported for the estimation of STS in different matrices such as spectro uorimetry [2] , spectrophotometry [3][4][5][6][7][8] , HPLC [9][10][11][12][13][14] and thin-layer chromatography [15][16][17] . The current work pursued to promote and validate a straightforward, fast, sensitive, and speci c spectro uorimetric method for the estimation of STS, using its inherent uorescence of its methanolic solution at acidic pH.…”

“…Based on a well-known redox reaction and employing Folin-Ciocalteu's reagent [35], the drug in pharmaceutical dosage forms was determined by Tipre and Vivia. Satyanarayana and Rao [36] have described two methods using the reaction between drug and in situ bromine and the unreacted bromine measured either by methyl orange or indigo carmine. …”

“…Besides, SMT in pharmaceuticals is reported to have been determined by visible spectrophotometry employing different reaction schemes. Satyanarayana and Rao [28] have described two methods using in situ bromine, methyl orange, and indigo carmine as reagents. Based on a wellknown redox reaction and employing Folin-Ciocalteu's reagent [22], the drug in pharmaceutical dosage forms was determined byTipre and Vavia .…”
