Sensitive and selective determination of fluvoxamine maleate using a sensitive chemiluminescence system based on the alkaline permanganate–Rhodamine B–gold nanoparticles reaction

Abstract: A high-yield chemiluminescence (CL) system based on the alkaline permanganate-Rhodamine B reaction was developed for the sensitive determination of fluvoxamine maleate (Flu). Rhodamine B is oxidized by alkaline KMnO4 and a weak CL emission is produced. It was demonstrated that gold nanoparticles greatly enhance this CL emission due to their interaction with Rhodamine B molecules. It is also observed that sodium dodecyl sulfate, an anionic surfactant, can strongly increase this enhancement. In addition, it was … Show more

“…These NPs based CL systems have been applied to sensitive monitoring of important analytes in various media [29]. For example, cyanide and fluvoxamine determination based on Au NPs-alkaline permanganate-RB CL reaction have been reported [30,31]. To the best of our knowledge, the reported CL-NPs systems are almost based on the enhancement effect of NPs in CL intensity, and there is no report for the analytical application with the inhibiting effect of NPs on CL systems.…”

“…This decrease was connected to electrostatic and π interaction of RohB molecules with negative citrate moieties of AuNPs, and was previously exploited to analytical aims in fluorescence 34,35 and CL fields. [8][9][10] On the other hand, absorption of AuNPs declined due to the addition of Fe(CN) 6 3- (Fig. S2b, Supporting Information), which indicates the oxidation reaction between them.…”

“…The acceptor role of RohB molecules has been regularly reported in CL reactions. [8][9][10] Quenching effect of AuNPs on the produced CL emission can be explained in two ways. (1) Resonance energy transfer between RohB as donor and AuNPs as acceptor 34,35 and (2) consumption of Fe(CN)6 3-by AuNPs.…”
